About Tanya Marsh, Licensed Holistic Esthetician

Tanya LaRae Marsh (she/her)

Licensed Esthetician certified in Oncology Esthetics; Specializing in natural support for reactive skin

I am a mother, daughter, sister and wife.  I am also an artist, welder, esthetician and an empath. I have learned to navigate numerous health challenges from a celiac and microscopic colitis diagnosis in 2015.

I live with my family in the Valley of The Moon (Sonoma, California), on the Original Homeland of the Miwok and Pomo Tribes.

Alaska is where I grew up, living in pristine, wildly beautiful places, which gave me a deep appreciation for Mother Earth.  My heart truly sings when I am with the Moose, Ravens and Birch Trees, under Ursa Major and the Aurora Borealis.

I approach skin care as I do my overall lifestyle — clean and organic products for the best results, inside and out.

My Personal Journey

As a 51 year old woman who experienced over 13 years of undiagnosed, severe and debilitating digestive distress, I have had my share of skin issues and extreme decline in health. This was induced almost exclusively by diet, but environment and stress played a big part as well.

In 2015 I was diagnosed with Celiac disease and Microscopic Colitis through a colonoscopy and intestinal biopsy. At the time I was just above 90 pounds, (normally 113) I was extremely anemic, food would not stay in, I spent hours each day in the bathroom with a burning, cramping digestive tract and after my 6 hours of work managing a Naturopathic Doctors office, I had to take a 2 hour nap to be able to cook dinner.

I also experienced rashes in unpleasant places, major brain fog, arthritic pain in most all of my joints and spent my three day weekends in bed trying to recover from the week while also trying to help our young son through elementary school.

Having those diagnosis was extremely difficult, but in knowing this, I have been able to stabilize and regain my health in a slow journey to recovery from the years of damage brought on by inflammatory reactions within my body.

I saw the biggest improvement in my skin and complexion when I stopped eating foods that caused inflammation: gluten first and foremost, but also other things like dairy, corn, tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant and various other unassuming foods that my body saw as harmful invaders.

When I stopped those other inflammatory foods, my rashes went away. With the help of food allergy tests, I was able to easily discover and stop ingesting the foods which caused the greatest inflammation for me.

These reactive foods can be different for each one of us and they can change as we get older. They can also go away with the proper support to your system in the rebuilding process to strengthen your gut. If you are interested in food intolerance testing and don’t have a doctor who can order it for you, let me know, there may be options available in your area.

My Esthetics Calling

I never knew that working as an esthetician was even a thing….until my mother took me for my first facial when I was pregnant in 2005, that was IT! Never had I experienced such a wonderfully transformative hour…I got to lay down and relax in a quiet, tranquil room where my face was gently cleansed and rinsed, lightly scented hot towels helped me slip into further relaxation only to follow with a soothing facial massage…what magic!!!

I was hooked and it connected all the pieces for me…my background managing the offices of Naturopathic Doctors, was to become the foundation for my skin care practice. Adding to this was my own personal experience with skin issues and overall healing journey with celiac and microscopic colitis starting in 2004.

I licensed in Esthetics in 2007, working at Tea Garden Springs and later Kenwood Inn & Spa. I also spent time working one on one with Esthetic rock stars Eva Claiborne and Manuel Skilandant. In 2018 I left office management and dove into opening my own location within The Moon Room in Petaluma and also joined Jean Claude Boisset’s team at The Senses Spa in Yountville.

December of 2019, I certified in Oncology Esthetics and set up to expand to join an Acupuncturist’s office in Marin offering treatments to Oncology clients beginning in 2020. Covid shut down all three locations I was available at, bringing a need to pivot my offerings. This allowed me to align with a practice that hopefully offers more to you, while it works better for me, my family and Mother Earth.

Thank you for being here and joining me on this skin care journey!

Land Back

As I learn to stand better with my fellow humans, I must acknowledge that I can do what I love on the Traditional Homelands of the Miwok and Pomo Tribes in what is now called Sonoma, California.

I am trying to understand how I can give back to their Tribal Organizations.  I have looked to groups like Sogorea Te’ Land Trust to learn about ‘Shuumi’ or Gift in Chochenyo, as they explain the benefits of Land Use Tax on their site.  For me, it is important to make this connection because I feel it is long past time to support and learn from local Tribal Groups.  This is to better understand their complex knowledge and relationships to Land, Mind, Body, Self and Spirit that the Indigenous People of Turtle Island hold.

In supporting Tribal Organizations around us and learning from them, my hope is that we can learn to live in a deeper, healthier relationship with Mother Earth and each other.  Helping to re-establish our nurturing, nourishing connections and bring our selves and our planet back into healthy balance.

I pledge to donate 8% of profits from individual consults and select group Skinformation Sessions to local Tribal Groups (1% for each of the future eight Generations).

I am open to conversation with anyone curious about learning more, especially about unlearning our colonial programming…perhaps we can work to increase our awareness together!
